In each edition of “SEO and Natural Search Traffic Building For Your Business” you will learn valuable information on how you can use naturally use search engine optimization to encourage, acquire and just plain old get traffic for your business, charitable or personal website.
In the last issue we talked about some tips for increasing your website ranking and traffic. In this issue we are going to go over some more tips that you can use to get repeat visitors to your website.
When people visit your website chances are very likely that most of them will leave within the first ten seconds, never to return again. The worst part about this is they leave without buying anything. They don’t even take the time to leave you a name, number or email address, so you have no idea how to reach them again.
In today’s issue I’m going to go over some simple tips that you can use to get people to come back to your website repeatedly.
Let’s get started:
- Update the pages on your website frequently. Stagnant sites are dropped by some search engines. You can even put a date counter on the page to show when it was last updated.
- Offer additional value on your website. For affiliates and partners you can place links to their sites and products and ask them to do the same for you. You can also advertise their books or videos, if these products relate to your industry and are not in competition with your own product.
- You can allow customers to ‘opt in’ to get discounts and special offers. Place a link on your site to invite customers to ‘opt in’ to get a monthly newsletter or valuable coupons.
- Add a link to your primary page with a script ‘Book Mark or Add this site to your Favorites’.
- Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the visitor can email your website link, with a pre written title, “Thought you might be interested in this”, just by clicking on it.
- Brand your website so that visitors always know they are on your site. Use consistent colors, logos and slogans and always provide a ‘Contact Us’ link on each page.
- Create a ‘Our Policies’ page that clearly defines your philosophy and principles in dealing with your customers. Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know they are secure when they visit your site.
- Create a FAQ page which addresses most of the doubts and clarifications about your product or your company that are likely to be asked. This helps to resolve most of the customers doubts in their first visit to your site.
- Ensure that each page on your website has appropriate titles and keywords so that your customer can find their way back to your site if they lose the book mark.
- Never spam a client, who has opted for newsletters, with unsolicited emails. Later if they decide they want to ‘opt out’ of the mailings, be sure you honor their request and take them off the mailing list. They may still come back if they like your products.
One more thing you can do is make your website more interactive. Make it interesting and fun for them to stick around. Let’s take a look at MySpace as an example. Go to the main page and snoop around. Not only do they provide a place for people to meet and get to know each other, they have polls, classifieds, forums, videos and more. All designed to get you to stick around and come back again.
Now I’m not saying that you should try to compete with MySpace, but what you can do is take the time to design your web pages so that your visitors will want to click around for a while and get to know you. Give them something to do and a reason to come back. The longer you can keep their attention the more times you can get them to come back the better for you and your business!

You make some very interesting points about how to get ‘traffic’ to your website.
Two examples:-
Add a link to your primary page with a script ‘Book Mark or Add this site to your Favorites’. and
- Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the visitor can email your website link, with a pre written title, “Thought you might be interested in this”, just by clicking on it.
Not being familiar with the ‘how’ of this, technically, is something I will have to explore. I would love to enter that kind of information (links) on all my websites as I don’t have hardly any traffic and this could help.
Oh well, another day at the computer and exploring..
Good information Teresa. Keep at it. You’re good.
